Preparing Files for Xerox Docucolor

Xerox Docucolor printing technology opens up a world of opportunities to enhance your marketing materials. The Xerox Docucolor’s combination of reasonable cost, fast turnaround time and the flexibility of digital printing make it ideal for many short-run colour applications.

Obviously, there are limitations to what the machine can do, but if you have realistic expectations and follow the guidelines below, we believe that you’ll be more than satisfied with the finished product.

Project Planning Guidelines

  1. The Xerox Docucolor is not an offset printing press. It is a toner-based digital color-printing device. While it is the most advanced machine of it’s type and produces excellent color for most applications, you should not expect it to match the quality of conventional offset printing.
  2. Certain paper stocks work much better than other stocks.
  3. Photographs, solid tints and fine text reproduce with excellent results on the Xerox DocuColor. We recommend that you minimize your use of graduated screens because on the Xerox DocuColor, graduated screens may not disappear entirely in the light areas. For best results, use a white background or a solid tint of a light colour.
  4. Design to avoid printing over fold lines. Toner is prone to cracking when folded.
  5. The DocuColor can not print off the edge of the sheet to create a bleed. If a bleed is desired, the next larger sheet size is used, then trimmed to finished size to create the bleed.
  6. Tight registration from sheet to sheet can not be achieved. Again, it is not a conventional offset print method and registration will vary from sheet to sheet.
